Majors Stadium

majors_stadiumIts first 17 years of existence saw Phillip’s Field hosting Scholastic Football competitions which ultimately saw Greenville to an undefeated season and State Championship.

In 1946, the field began a new life as home to ’The Majors’ a minor league baseball team.  More than 160,000 fans attended Majors Games in 1946.  Majors Stadium fielded a number of competitive teams in the late 1940’s. On April 10, 1949 the Majors defeated the New York Yankees 4-3 in an exhibition game at Majors Stadium.

In a time when some of our Hero’s were masters of the game, some walked this ground.. legends like Joe DiMaggio and Monty Stratton.
